Dental SEO: a practical checklist for local search
The technical, content and local signals that decide whether patients nearby find your practice in Google and Maps.

How local search ranks dentists
Google describes local ranking as a mix of relevance (how well your profile and site match the search), distance (how far you are from the searcher) and prominence (how well known and well reviewed you are). You can't move your office, so the work is in relevance and prominence.
Google Business Profile
- Choose the most specific primary category (for example Pediatric dentist or Orthodontist), then add accurate secondary categories.
- List every service you want to be found for, with plain descriptions.
- Keep hours current, including holidays, and add a booking link.
- Add real photos of your team, office and exterior.
- Answer reviews and questions; use Posts for news and offers.
Website technical basics
- HTTPS everywhere, with no mixed-content warnings.
- Fast on mobile: test with Google PageSpeed Insights and fix the largest issues first.
- A unique title and meta description on every page that says what the page offers and where.
- Structured data (schema.org Dentist or MedicalBusiness) with your name, address, phone, hours and links to your profiles.
- An XML sitemap and a robots.txt that doesn't block important pages.
- No broken links or redirect chains.
Content that earns rankings
Give each important service its own page: what it is, who it's for, what to expect, cost and insurance, recovery, and frequently asked questions. A thin list of services on one page rarely ranks for any of them.
If you serve several towns, describe how patients from each one reach you, but avoid near-duplicate pages that only swap the city name.
Name your dentists and their credentials. Patients and search engines both look for evidence of real, qualified people.
Consistency and citations
Your name, address and phone number should match exactly across your website, Google, Yelp, insurance directories and the national provider registry. Mismatches confuse both patients and search engines. A free Dental360Hub practice check shows what the federal registry holds for your address.
AI search
AI assistants and Google's AI Overviews increasingly answer questions like "best pediatric dentist near me". They draw on the same signals: clear service pages, consistent facts, structured data and reviews. Pages that answer specific questions plainly are the ones that get quoted.
